Rev. John Doroski - Philippine Pioneering Experiences

Cebu Pioneered -August 1979-

After securing a weekly pattern and staff to support a center director I appointed my spiritual daughter Lydia as the center director in Bacolod and took a team of ten recently joined members along with Mila, Nanette’s spiritual daughter to become the center director of the 4th city, Cebu.  For about a week all eleven of us slept in a one room, open to the air beautiful bamboo hut. Within a few days we quickly located an extremely deteriorated one large

room, 1st floor apartment, without running water, but one half  block from the center of the Philippines second largest city. Actually it was dead center, except one had to walk down a narrow dirt ally to the inner area of a city block; this was to become an ideal outreach witnessing center to bring contacts off the city streets to. It actually was a dangerous area at night and we had to sleep in the hot, muggy weather with the windows blocked by closed shudders to protect ourselves from physical harm. For one year the members of the Cebu pioneering team endured quite a physical hardship living many people in

one large room with only a curtain dividing men from women and especially having no running water or toilet. Each morning the first assignment before prayer was for each individual to fend for themselves, or say, search the streets for any businesses open which they could use the toilet for their morning needs. Members joined quickly, but it was her in Cebu

that many of the best members joined at that time, perhaps because of the fact that Filipinos had to choose to become even poorer in eating and living, if they chose to move into our very humble center.

In November 1979 Nanette visited our pioneering and she made a Holy Ground.

First Unification Church Center Purchased -September 1980-

With so many members joining in Cebu and across the Philippines we had to seriously deal with expanding our living quarters and therefore we chose Cebu to be the place that we would buy our first Unification Church Center. Over that first year we put effort nationwide into earning extra money through selling

peanut brittle, wood carvings from Pyete and other items across the entire 4 cities our movement existed in to buy a property for HF and TPs by “not” increasing the food we ate by buying food, but still continued to eat only what the poor donated to us for Heaven’s Will.
Thus, within one year of pioneering we moved into our first Unification owned center in the Philippines and acquired a center having two toilets and two showers, fantastic.
However, this run down old house needed major repairs which the increasing numbers of hard working members easily achieved which included building a large water storage tower in the backyard. Because of this center being on the main street travelled to the university, we painted the center a dramatic green color, opened a spiritual/religious book store and put two large signs consisting of angels blowing trumpets above the book store to attract attention.
Of course we immediately filled the center with guests hearing lectures, organized witnessing around spiritual conditions, experienced spiritual phenomena and dealt with expanding financial needs. At this point Cebu was becoming the center point of intense mission activity and I brought in members from other centers to help.

One sister joined who had recently graduated in animal husbandry and we then decided to creat a farm, first in the center's backyard. We built cages and raised rabbits and chicken for meat to be used inside of showpow bun machines we built and Ulrich developed a grape orchard. We explored options to developed a large pig farm, but all came to an end when our neighbor complained about the massive amount of flies coming over to his house and I noticed the ground moving beneath our cages from infant flies developing.

21 Day Leadership Workshop -April 1981-

As expansion occurred, Nanette and my children joined us from Cubao and then Ulrich came to help in organizing Ulrich our 1st 21 day workshop to prepare the Philippines future leaders.

September 1981 we completed our bamboo prayer/mediation room in the Cebu center's backyard, started the Home-Church Providence in November and in December held the first Visayas and Mindanao combined leaders meeting; Davao, Bacolod, Iloilo, Tacloban and Cebu were represented. In the end of 1981 we began the Philippines first Peace Ambassador work by greeting greeting the President of Korea.
